Southwestern Entrance to the Menai Strait – Approaches to Caernarfon Bar.
Mariners are advised that a new Fairway Buoy has been established approximately 0.5
nautical miles to the south-west of the outer Bar buoys. Details as listed below. Please see
the attached updated chartlet for the Caernarfon Bar.
Location: 053°06.45'N 004°25.00'W
Type: Safe Water Mark.
Daymark: red and white vertical stripes.
Topmark: red sphere.
Overall height from waterline: ~ 4m.
Focal height: ~ 3m.

Southwestern part of the Menai Strait – Permanent Changes to Aids to Navigation.
Mariners are advised that the 'Traeth Gwyllt' starboard hand buoy (previously unlit), in position 053°09.25'N 004°16.11'W,
has now been fitted with a light of the character shown below:

Southwestern Entrance to the Menai Strait – Caernarfon Bar Channel.
Mariners are advised of the intention to re-position a total of six navigation buoys to
mark a new channel over the Caernarfon Bar. The accompanying update for the
Caernarfon Bar Buoys (dated 09.06.2011) shows the proposed new positions.
The new channel passes to the south of the wreck of the “Grampian Castle”, which
lies in position 053°07.30'N 004°22.97'W.
It is expected that the re-positioning of the buoys will commence at 0730 UTC 10th
June 2011 and should be completed by 1400 UTC 10th June 2011.

South-western part of the Menai Strait.
Mariners are advised that Channel Buoy C14 (previously in position
53°10.37'N 004°15.12'W) has been moved to the following new position due
to movement of the channel:

North-eastern part of the Menai Strait - Outfall marker off Beaumaris.
Mariners are advised that the unlighted green beacon in position 53°15.86'N
004°04.99'W is temporarily missing.
The base of the beacon is believed to be protruding from the seabed and therefore
mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution in this area and to give the position
of the beacon a wide berth.
Anglesey County Council are arranging to deploy a temporary marker buoy in the
position of the beacon.

South-western part of the Menai Strait.
Mariners are advised that a current measuring device has been deployed
on the seabed approximately 1 cable southwest of Channel Buoy C13 in position
53°09.45'N 004°15.98'W.
The location is marked with a pink coloured inflatable mooring buoy.
It is envisaged that the instrument will be in position for approximately 14 days.
Mariners are advised to give the marker buoy a wide berth and not to
attempt to pick up or moor to the marker buoy.

South-western part of the Menai Strait - Menai Strait Swim.
Mariners are advised that the Menai Strait Swim will take place on Saturday 17th July 2010.
The race will start at the Foel on Anglesey at around 14:15hrs and cross to Caernarfon.
The expected duration of the race is approximately 45 minutes.
All swimmers will be accompanied by a canoe displaying the Alpha flag.
Mariners should exercise extreme caution when transiting this area.

Victoria Dock Marina, Caernarfon.
Mariners are advised that piling works in Victoria Dock are now completed and
visiting craft will be admitted as normal.

Victoria Dock Marina, Caernarfon.
Mariners are advised that piling works will commence within the Victoria Dock on the
14th April 2010 and continue for a period of approximately 3 weeks. During this time
a pontoon barge will be moored in various locations within the basin in order to install
mooring piles for the existing pontoons.
During this time no visiting craft will be admitted to the Dock and the movement of
any vessels within the basin will be restricted whilst the works are ongoing. Vessels
intending to move within the basin during this time should contact the Dock Master
on VHF channel 80 to request permission before proceeding.

Victoria Dock Marina, Caernarfon.
Mariners are advised that works will commence within the Victoria Dock on the 26th
January 2010 and continue for a period of approximately 2 weeks. During this time a
pontoon barge will be moored in various locations within the basin in order to
undertake ground investigation works, which will include the drilling of boreholes into
the seabed.
The movement of vessels within the basin will be restricted whilst the works are
ongoing. Any vessels intending to enter/exit the Dock during this time should contact
the contact the Dock Master on VHF channel 80 to request permission before
proceeding.

Menai Strait - Port Dinorwic.
Notice is hereby given that on or after Friday 15th August 2008, a work barge
(consisting of UNIFLOAT pontoon sections with spud legs) will be moored alongside
the outer sea wall at Port Dinorwic Marina whilst emergency repair work is undertaken
to a collapsed section of the wall. The barge will be moored in the following approximate position: 53°11.22'N 004°12.57'W.
Mariners should exercise caution when navigating in this area, giving a wide berth to the barge and passing at reduced speed to minimise wash.
This notice will remain in force until further notice.

Caernarfon Bay - Survey Operations in the vicinity of Dinas Dinlle.
Mariners are advised that on or after Thursday 5th June 2008 the Multicat type vessel "UKD Sealion"
will commence a geotechnical survey of the seabed to the West of Dinas Dinlle.
Survey operations are expected to continue for approximately 6 days.
During this time the vessel will be deploying instruments to the seabed and will
be stationary at several locations along a line between the following approximate positions:
Western limit: 53°05.04'N 004°23.78'W Eastern limit: 53°05.05'N 004°20.72'W
"UKD Sealion" will display shapes/lights in accordance with I.R.P.C.S. rule 27(b) for a vessel restricted in
ability to manoeuvre, and will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channels 14 & 16. Mariners are advised to
exercise caution when navigating in this area, giving the survey vessel a wide berth.

Menai Strait - Oyster Beds to the West of Plas Menai.
Mariners are advised of the presence of unmarked oyster beds in the vicinity of the following position: 53° 10.12' N 004° 14.86' W.
The oysters are cultivated on steel trestles that are located in the intertidal area just above the low water mark.
The trestles rise approximately 0.6 metres up from the seabed. Mariners are advised to exercise caution when navigating in this area.
